What Happened?
The FMCSA is cracking down on two Houston-based medical examiners who were found to be non-compliant with DOT physical exam standards for commercial drivers. As a result, over 15,000 Medical Examiner Certificates (MECs) issued by these doctors have been voided.
What This Means for You:
If you got your DOT physical from Dr. Jenny Le or Dr. Dustin Mai between March 2023 and March 2025, your certificate is no longer valid. You must get a new medical card from a properly certified examiner by May 10, 2025, or your CDL will be downgraded.
Why It Matters:
The FMCSA’s goal here is to protect roadway safety and ensure only qualified drivers are behind the wheel.
Unfortunately, even if you’re fully capable and healthy, if your exam came from one of these two doctors, it’s no longer recognized.
This affects over 15,000 drivers, and we don’t want you to be one of them caught off guard.
Our Take (and Advice):
At Charles Cain Group, we know how stressful it is to deal with regulatory headaches when you’re just trying to run your trucking business.
Check your medical certificate ASAP.
If it came from one of these doctors, book a new physical immediately.
We can recommend trusted, certified medical examiners in your area if needed.
Stay compliant — we’ll help you stay on top of things like this, so you can stay on the road.
Key Deadlines:
New MEC due: May 10, 2025
Risk: CDL downgrade if not updated.
Need help navigating this or have questions about your compliance or coverage? That’s what we’re here for.
